Ain Soph & Ripple Restaurants (Tokyo)

Ain Soph is a vegan only restaurant

There are a few of these restaurants in Tokyo Ginza, Ikebukuro and the one I go to in Shinjuku.
(Straight outside the subway C5 entrance of Shinjuku Sanchome station)

The decor is shabby chic, all white and distressed wood. This is one place I always have to go when in Tokyo because they do the most amazing pancakes! They even describe them on their menu as the core of the restaurant.

Japanese pancakes are not like European style crepes they are thick and fluffy almost like a sponge cake . The ones here come with soy whipped cream, vegan ice cream and fruit .

They have a small menu, four choices at lunch making it easy to decide.

I particularly like the glass of fresh vegetables they bring you with a miso dipping sauce as an appetiser.  They do a lunch menu of Deli salad (a variety of seasonal salads with brown rice and bread).

They do a sandwich and also a pasta plate, our favorite is the hayashi rice,  a rich sauce with mushrooms served with rice and shad.

Apart from the must try pancakes (which are not cheap at ¥1,600 but well worth it), they also serve waffles and a chocolate fruit and cake fondue.

For drinks they have a selection of fresh juices or coffees/teas for dinner, weekends and holidays they do a different menu . If you want to check out more options visit their website www.ain-soph.jp written in Japanese and English.

When you leave to pay they also have a selection of takeaway items like cookies but I would recommend you try the tiramisu that comes in a little jar (very delicious). It was Halloween when I went and I picked up a yummy pumpkin shaped cookie as well.

It was my husbands birthday when we last visited and we asked for a special message to be written on his pancake though they do charge extra for this service.

Ain – Soph now also have a new place in Shinjuku near the Sibu-Shinjuku station called RIPPLE, This places sells burgers/fries and burrito style fast foods. I had the vegan chicken burger ¥900 with fries and vegan cheese ¥600. They also do a salad bowl french toast and waffles. A selection of beers and soft drinks are available.

The decor is bench style and you can takeaway if you want to. Again if you missed out on the tiramisu you can get them here.
